Will Israel Evacuate Ukrainian Jews In Time?

As it becomes more and more clear that Russia is preparing to invade Ukraine, Israel is finding ways it can evacuate Ukrainian Jews to Israel.

With the sharp rise of rhetoric between Russia, the EU, Ukraine, and the USA, it is clear that neither side is willing to back down. In fact, UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson said the following:

“The intelligence is very clear that there are 60 Russian battle groups on the borders of Ukraine, the plan for a lightning war that could take out Kyiv is one that everybody can see.”

“We need to make it very clear to the Kremlin, to Russia, that that would be a disastrous step.”

NATO is already sending more and more troops and weapons as well as fighter jets and naval vessels to the border with Russia. This makes it clear that a real war involving Russia and Ukraine as well as NATO is a serious possibility. Given the stakes, Israel is looking to find ways to evacuate the 75,000+ Jews in Ukraine.

A report released by Haaretz said that representatives of various government offices and groups met on Sunday to discuss the eventuality of evacuating Ukrainian Jews. The representatives came from the Prime Minister’s Office, Foreign Minister, Defense Ministry, Diaspora Affairs Ministry and the Jewish Agency.

Despite the Russian troop build up and the accusations coming from the UK, US, and NATO, Russia denies it is planning to invade without provocation.

“The disinformation spread by the British Foreign Office is more evidence that it is the NATO countries, led by the Anglo-Saxons, who are escalating tensions around Ukraine,” Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on Sunday. “We call on the British Foreign Office to stop provocative activities, stop spreading nonsense.”

Israel has decided to remain neutral during the crisis.
